My approach to working with authors is immersive. In addition to copy-editing, I provide developmental editing services to ensure that your draft will be as strong as possible before it is submitted to publishers. Whether you are working on a book manuscript, journal article or job-market paper, I will provide detailed, line-by-line feedback with comments and suggestions. You’ll receive a diagnostic report identifying your manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses that will permit you to refine your contribution to scholarship before it is submitted or goes to print.

My clients’ work has appeared in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Economic Review, American Ethnologist, American Anthropologist, and the Journal of Cultural Economy. I have edited book manuscripts submitted to Duke University Press, Princeton University Press and Manchester University Press.

I have a PhD in political science from York University specializing in the law of commercial arbitration. I am the co-founder of the Journal of Law and Political Economy and have worked as a managing editor for Public Books. I have also worked as a development director for the Association for the Promotion of Political Economy and the Law and the Law and Political Economy Collective.

Editing Services

  • Copy-Editing

    Copy-editing is best applied to complete manuscripts that only require light revisions. I will check the manuscript for basic mechanics including spelling, capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation and abbreviation.

  • Substantive Editing

    Substantive editing involves a in-depth engagement with the manuscript. In addition to copy-editing the document, I will provide systematic feedback and a report on the manuscript with a list of prioritized suggestions.

  • Job Market Applications and Coaching

    I offer comprehensive consultations on all documents included in job-market applications including cover letters, research statements, C.Vs, and dissertations (or JMPs).

Job Market Coaching

  • Job Market Preparation

    I provide professional feedback for job market applicants. We will focus on all dimensions of your application including cover letters, CVs, personal statements, and writing samples to ensure that your application is as strong as possible.

  • Presentation Coaching

    Academics are expected to teach, lead seminars, and speak at conferences, yet very few receive formal training in these skills - they are by and large, “learned on the job”. I work with scholars to prepare for interviews and presentations. This includes attention to substantive matters, including presenting your research clearly and compellingly. We will also focus on mechanics including tempo, modulation, and storyboarding.

  • Pricing

    The availability of funding for book-length manuscripts can vary in accordance with your home institution’s budget and stage of career. It can also vary depending on the number of iterations required. For this reason, I am open to negotiating a rate that is affordable to you.
